This silver-plated tenor is not the most easily identifiable horn. I am calling it an Amati.
Perhaps most notable is the left-hand pinkie plateau with just three finger touches. The G# and C# are combined into one. I saw one of these a while back, but cannot remember much about it.
Amati Drums
Amati Saxophone Serial Numbers The serial numbers are:- Bb. 304655 stamped on the lower end of the top section and the top end of the lower section. It also has 'Made in Czech Republic' stamped on the top end of the lower section below the serial number. The bell has AMATI KRASLICE. There are pics of full-on Keilwerth models in here, as well as 'Amati-assembled' horns with their own serial numbers., which has a Kohlert serial number. If we go by when Amati was created (1945-1948), this would be one of the very first horns from Amati., which was also stenciled as the King Lemaire. Serial numbers can be used to identify supposedly “better” instruments. It is sometimes (possible erroneously) supposed that five digit MKVIs are the best. Or you want to play a horn with a number that is close to your idol’s saxophone.
I have an Amati toneking alto in lacquer, exactly like the one on saxpics.com under the “Amati ToneKing” heading. He lists Amati Tonekings as either having a Keilwerth serial or maybe not having one. My toneking alto does NOT have a Keilwerth serial number, although it has the JKG stamp and everything else.
